About Pam
Pam has been professionally involved in music education for 24 years. After leaving music college, she started as an instrumental music teacher working with children in both primary and secondary schools. During this time she trained as a brass specialist, pianist, composer and conductor.
When she moved to England from her home in Scotland in the early nineties, she taught as a peripatetic music specialist within a number of LEAs.
After graduating with a B.E.d degree, Pam became a classroom teacher. Much of this time she worked with children with communication difficulties.
During this time Pam recognised the need for and began to develop, a full scheme of work for the non-specialist music teacher at EYFS, KS1 and KS2. The objective was to create a cross-curricular scheme which takes the fear out of elements of the prescribed curriculum such as “composition” for the teacher with little or no specialist training. She started writing children’s songs that covered the subject contents throughout the curriculum, running parallel with the scheme of work.
To provide a focus for the project in coordinating the group of teachers and musicians who had become involved Sound Dimension was created. Using her years of experience, Pam has now put together training and workshop modules to assist the teacher and music co-ordinator with primary school music at EYFS, KS1 and KS2.
